Peace of Mind Through ABLEnow

Kimberly Hudson and her husband Burt wanted a savings account that could be used for their three-year-old son Jack’s education costs with the flexibility to cover other expenses related to his Down syndrome. They found just that with ABLEnow.

This savings and investment program allows the Hudson family to save for the necessities of Jack’s daily activities without losing focus on future expenses. “We are currently using ABLE funds for medical devices, equipment and speech therapy. In the future, we hope to use this money to help Jack go to college or travel.”

The Hudsons, who live in Northern Virginia, can spend more than $600 per month on Jack’s disability-related expenses. With these significant expenses, the Hudsons have found another reason to appreciate ABLEnow: the ability to accept gift contributions from loved ones.

Kimberly can share Jack’s ABLEnow account number with family and friends to easily accept gift contributions through ABLEnow’s online Contribution Center or by check accompanied by a printable certificate.

“I love that family and friends can contribute directly to Jack’s account,” Kimberly noted. “We are thrilled to ask our family to contribute to his ABLEnow account instead of giving toys that clutter the house!”

Plus, Kimberly, Burt and other Virginia-based friends and family can each earn an annual Virginia state income tax deduction of up to $2,000 for contributions made to Jack’s ABLEnow account.

Kimberly noted that all parents of children with disabilities worry what will happen when they’re no longer around. With ABLEnow, Kimberly says that fear is diminished. “We are thrilled that Jack can now have money in his name without jeopardizing the critically important programs that he relies on.”

What’s the most meaningful thing that their ABLEnow account offers? “ABLEnow gives us the peace of mind that our son can have money – in his name – for the things he needs to live a meaningful life.”
